The formulation sharpens the slope change point of the titration curve, which is especially important at low TAN levels (<0.5 mg KOH/g) for measurement reliability.
Both are potentiometric titration methods. D664 is the ASTM standard; IP 177 is the British standard. CONOSTAN standards are compliant with both.
High-quality turbine and hydraulic oils have initial TAN values in this range. It is critical for early degradation detection.
