Manually determination of static and dynamic angle of repose. The most direct measurement method for powder flowability. For pharmaceutical, food and chemical industry applications.

BeDensi AR is meticulously crafted for precision in powder angle of repose testing. This measurement refers to the angle created by the sloping side of a powder cone under specific conditions and is a pivotal indicator of powder flowability.
The smaller the angle of repose is, the better the flowability will be. Understanding the angle of repose is essential in assessing and optimizing processes that involve the handling of powdered materials.
| Angle of Repose (°) | Flowability Class |
|---|---|
| < 25 | Excellent flow |
| 25–30 | Good flow |
| 30–40 | Fair flow |
| 40–45 | Poor flow |
| > 45 | Non-flowing / very poor |

Angle of repose is the angle a powder cone makes with the horizontal when poured onto a surface — a directly observed geometric measurement. Carr index is an indirect value calculated from the difference between bulk and tapped densities. Both are used for flowability classification and complement each other, but measure different physical properties.
Static angle of repose — measured from a cone formed by powder poured onto a fixed surface — is appropriate for storage and filling processes. Dynamic angle of repose, measured in a rotating cylinder, better simulates active processing conditions such as vibration, mixing and conveying.
Manual goniometry requires an operator to visually estimate the cone shape and read the angle — a method that varies between individuals. BeDensi AR captures the full cone image with a CCD camera and calculates the angle via edge detection. The same algorithm is applied every time, eliminating operator dependency.
PowderPro A1 already includes angle of repose measurement among its 11 parameters. BeDensi AR is a dedicated instrument focused exclusively on angle of repose — preferred when higher measurement repeatability, better image quality or dynamic angle of repose is required. The two instruments serve different needs rather than being direct alternatives.
