Multi-Purpose X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD)
GNR Explorer is a modular X-ray diffractometer with Theta/Theta geometry and torque-motor direct-drive optics. It supports powder diffraction, thin film characterization, residual stress measurement, and texture analysis within a single configurable platform.
Theta/Theta Goniometer
The torque-motor direct-drive system eliminates gears, belts, and reducers from the goniometer entirely. Optical encoders guarantee ±0.01° angular accuracy across the full 2θ range.
Detector Options
GNR Explorer supports Dectris 1D HPC, Advacam MiniPix-TPX3 2D, and Silicon Drift Detector configurations. Measurement times drop from hours to minutes.
Non-ambient XRD
GNR Explorer monitors phase transitions, thermal expansion, and chemical transformations under real process conditions using high/low-temperature and humidity-controlled accessories.

GNR Explorer accommodates flat, circular, and specialty holders for powders, bulk specimens, thin films, and air-sensitive samples. All holders attach directly to the standard goniometer adapter for fast changeover.

Frequently Asked Questions
The GNR Explorer scans from −110° to +168° 2θ. The torque-motor optical-encoder drive system maintains angular accuracy better than ±0.01° across this entire range. The minimum step size of 0.0001° provides sufficient resolution for precise lattice parameter determination.
In Theta/Theta geometry, both the X-ray tube and detector arm rotate while the sample stays horizontal and stationary. This is particularly suited for loose powders, liquids, thin films, and heavy specimens — no special mounting or fixturing is required to keep the sample in the beam.
Plug & Scan means that optics, detectors, and sample stages can be exchanged without realignment. The system can be purchased in an entry-level XRPD configuration and expanded later with thin-film optics, an Eulerian cradle, or alternative detectors — each accessory installs and scans immediately.
Three detector options are available: Dectris 1D HPC (640 pixels, 50 µm) for fast, noise-free powder diffraction; Advacam MiniPix-TPX3 2D (256 × 256 pixels, 55 µm) for full 2D pattern capture and texture analysis; and Silicon Drift Detector for simultaneous EDXRF/TXRF spectroscopy alongside XRD data collection.
XRR and GID measurements require the parabolic mirror monochromator, piezoelectric sample stage, and knife-edge collimator combination. These are supplied as optional accessories and, thanks to the Plug & Scan architecture, can be used alongside the standard XRPD configuration without separate realignment.
